Your first recipe in Wok pan: What should you pay attention to?

nava

Surely you have heard in cooking shows to say "we take a wok or we throw in a wok…". But why do all the great cooks use it and talk about it? The magic of this utensil lies in how quickly it helps our ingredients to be sautéed or fried with minimal use of any fat. And why this? Simply because thanks to its shape, the distribution of heat in the utensil is done in a uniform way, always giving us the most delicious and well-cooked result!

Are all the wok the same? By which criteria should I choose?

The truth is that no. Not all woks are the same and in order to enjoy the "ultimate dish", in addition to the correct choice of ingredients, you must always pay attention to the quality of your utensils. For this reason in this blog we will help you choose the one that suits you better!

1. Wok Cantonese

You can find the Wok Cantonese  in 4 different dimensions. They are made of steel and have a solid wooden handle ensuring a firm grip. Steel is the best heat conductor and thanks to this wok it immediately develops high temperatures, giving you the opportunity for a quick cooking. They have a non-stick coating so you do not need to add excess oil making your meals even healthier and lighter.

Why should I choose it? Steel is a fairly durable material that withstands time, even in the presence of acidic materials (vinegar, lemon). It also does not corrode even when exposed to sudden high temperatures. It is the ideal utensil for gas cookers where the contact with the flame of the stove is direct.

2. Wok Terrestrial

You can find the Wok Terrestrial in the dimension of 28 cm. It has 3 layers of ceramic coating and therefore high resistance to abrasion and high temperatures (up to 300 °C).The solid composition of the metal and its heavy bottom are the characteristics that help the temperature to be distributed evenly over the entire surface of the utensil, while its smooth surface makes cleaning even easier.

Why should I choose it? Thanks to the composition of the materials from which a ceramic wok is made, it will last longer than a non-stick one, while thanks to the uniform distribution of the temperature inside the utensil, the saving of electricity and time is easily felt.

3. Wok Taurus & Nature

Both Wok Taurus and Wok Nature are available in 28cm dimension. They are made of aluminum and have 5 non-stick stone coatings. Thanks to them, the utensil acquires a long life while ensuring perfectly healthy cooking as it is like cooking on natural stone. The handle is non-slip and remains cold even after hours of cooking, while their durable non-stick coating is the one that provides great resistance to abrasion and high temperatures.

Why should I choose them? Aluminum wok quickly catches the temperature you are looking for, resulting in the least possible energy consumption in your home. It is also a very light material that helps the utensil to be easily manageable.

What can I cook in a wok?

Yes... the truth is that when we think of cooking in a wok our mind goes directly to sauteed vegetables. But the truth is that you can cook any dish you want with rice, meat, fish, shellfish and more. For this reason, below we list one of our favorite dishes to try it!

Chinese Fried Rice with Brisket (egg and vegetables)

Ingredients:

1 red onion cut into thin slices

2 tablespoons oil

1 teaspoon soy sauce with a little salt

2 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 piece of brisket cut into thin strips or 1 piece of chicken

a little sesame oil

1 red and 1 yellow pepper cut into thin slices

2 carrots cut into small pieces

3 eggs lightly beaten

4 cups boiled basmati rice

bean or lentil sprouts or other sprouts

1 cup entamame (green soy beans optional)

2 chopped spring onions

a little sesame for serving

extra soy sauce for serving

Directions:

We start by warming up in our wok 1 tablespoon of oil and then add our meat and cook for 4-5 minutes. Then add the onion until golden brown for 5-7 minutes and then add the carrot and the peppers. Once they wither, gather them on one side of the wok and on the other side, add a little oil and cook our eggs, stirring for about 2 minutes, until they are cooked and broken into pieces. Then mix all the ingredients in the wok (meat, vegetables, eggs) and add the soy and oyster sauce (you can find it in supermarkets in places with Asian products). Add the sprouts, the entame, the spring onion and the sesame. Finally add the boiled rice, mix well for 1-2 minutes and if necessary add a little more soy sauce or oyster. Serve in a bowl and enjoy!
