nava

It is a weekend, Christmas season, the house smells nice and festive, the kitchen works overtime! The table is set with the appropriate dishes, forks, decorated and festive while the space is almost full of relatives or friends, children and adults! Holidays that are full of complexity are neither fun nor comfortable. Also, the holidays mean family dinners and a lot of food, so a lot of cooking! Have you made the proper preparations for this?

Now the family meals do not have the form that they used to have, that is, the whole family eats together every day. Different lifestyles make it difficult for the family to enjoy all the food together on a daily basis, but there are some traditions that are not easily replaced such as fresh melomakarona and steamed Greek almond snow balls - kourabiedes that bring the scent of Christmas throughout the house.

Our proposal? This Christmas, introduce new traditions in your home and renew the festive atmosphere! Make an egg nog and be a pioneer, making the whole family wondering... But what is this popular Christmas drink, which recently became known in Greece?

It is said that the name is a combination of two words: the rum was called grog and nogin was the wooden cup served by the bartenders of that time! So in the beginning it was called egg en grog and later, egg nog.

Egg nog, the Christmas drink!

This recipe here is for a drink that is both tasty and delicious, extremely sweet and everything you need for these festive days! It is so easy and fast to prepare and once was using for "medical".

Recipe ingredients:

4 eggs

4 vanillas

8 tablespoons sugar

4 teaspoons rum

2 cups of milk

Recipe Execution:

Separate the egg whites from the yolks, take the yolks and beat them together with 3-4 spoons of sugar, until they thicken and turn white.

Add the rum, the milk and mix everything well together! It is ready and we divide it into 4 glasses. In another bowl, beat the egg whites, vanilla and remaining sugar until they become a meringue. Distribute our meringue in the glasses and serve them cold with a straw (paper!) and cinnamon.

Recipe ingredients:

For the dough:

1 cup of milk butter

Recipe execution:

We want a bowl in which we mix the ingredients for the dough, everything except of the water and the flour. Beat until it become white and fluffy. Add the water and the flour gradually, continuing to beat with the mixer until it becomes a fluffy mixture.

Shape the dough into the shape you want and carve it with a fork, to get the desired texture. Place our melomakarona in a pan and bake for about 40' in the oven at 180 degrees.

Finally, pour the ingredients for the syrup in a saucepan and let them boil for 5'. Finally, turn off the heat and while the syrup is simmering, dip the melomakarona in it and take them out one by one with the slotted spoon or spatula. Final touch, sprinkle with walnuts.
